Best Physiotherapy Clinic Barrie Innisfil

Our joints can experience gradual wear as we age — especially in frequently used joints like our ankles and feet. However, ankle and foot issues do not always happen with age. Foot drop is a common problem following a stroke or traumatic brain injury. If either of these describes your situation, you can learn to walk naturally again with the help of ankle foot orthotics at MyoDynamic Health.

MyoDynamic Health is locally owned and operated out of Newmarket, Barrie and Innisfil, ON. In these locations, we offer several services alongside our on-site orthotics lab, helping you succeed in all forms of care. Contact us to book an assessment today!

AFO for Ankle Pain and Instability

Ankle instability can range from several conditions, minor to severe. Either way, it can get in the way of performing your favorite activities. Instead of letting ankle pain stop you, consider custom ankle foot orthotics for extra support. Ankle foot orthosis can be custom or off the shelf. When our patients purchase an off the shelf ankle foot orthosis, we always recommend either a custom-made orthotic to go along with it or off the shelf orthotic insoles. Orthotic insoles can be tailored to fit your feet, dispersing pressure throughout the foot and relieving any stress on your ankle. Orthotics can also help with foot correction and alignment, overall making a positive impact on your gait.

Orthotic inserts can be helpful for several conditions causing ankle pain, including

  • Ankle injury: If you have previously suffered an ankle injury, orthotic inserts can help with added support during recovery.
  • Arthritis: Arthritis in the ankle joint can be painful with movement. Custom orthotics can help cushion and absorb shock from walking impact.
  • Instability: Orthotics provide stabilization and correction for the foot and ankle for all forms of movement.

Ankle Foot Orthosis for Foot Drop Support

MyoDynamic Health also provides a unique orthotic — the WalkOn Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) — to help patients with foot drop. This condition can result from nerve damage from a stroke, brain injury, neuromuscular atrophy or multiple sclerosis. This ankle foot orthotic can support your leg, ankle and foot as you complete daily movement tasks, such as walking around the house or using the stairs.

We offer the WalkOn AFO in two levels, depending on the severity of your condition.

  • WalkOn AFO: The standard orthotic supports light to severe foot drop, helping to lift the foot as you walk.
  • WalkOn AFO Reaction: This version supports moderate to severe foot drop to reduce the risk of stumbling or falling. It also supports the knee joint for more natural movement and foot correction.

AFO for Children

AFO for Children

Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs) for children are specialized braces designed to support and correct walking patterns. These custom-fitted devices are prescribed by healthcare professionals to help children with conditions like toe walking, providing stability and promoting a more typical gait. AFOs can make a significant difference in a child's mobility and comfort, ensuring they step confidently on the path to healthy development. The most common cause for AFO's in children is due to pathological toe walking.
