Hallux Valgus
Hallux Valgus is the Lateral Deviation of the Big Toe joint towards the lesser toes. It is quite common and occurs as a result of genetics, poor footwear and/or poor mechanics (eg. overpronation). Often seen with the development of a Bunion.
Common symptoms include:
- A bulging bump on the outside of your greater toe.
- Outward deviation of big toe (hallux valgus).
- Tenderness and swelling around the big toe.
- Thickening of the skin at the base of your greater toe.
- Difficulty flexing and extending your big toe.
CUSTOM ORTHOTICS FOR BUNIONS AND HALLUX VALGUS:
- Full length medial (inside) post - this will direct impact forces away from the bunion and alleviate the greater toe region.
- 1st Ray Extension - allows the orthotics to act as a lever to propel the foot forward, which in turn will prevent extension of big toe during toe off to allow for healing.
- Customized arch support - prevent rolling of the foot inward to allow for a straighter toe off and offload the base of the greater toe.
- Shock absorbent forefoot cushioning - prevents inflammation at the bunion and absorbs shock when forefoot loading.
- Deep heel cup - will lock the heel in place, allow your foot to maintain neutral position.
- Perforated top-cover - materials that wicks away sweat and bacteria while allowing for effective transfer of air and perspiration, resulting in a cool, dry environment.
